Why are we Anti-Intellectual and Anti-Science?  Not meaning you or I; but the country as a whole.  This is a relatively new phenomena maybe rising out of picking G.W. Bush as “the guy we most want to have beer with” instead of Al Gore in the 2000 election (I truly believe this was the most seminal point of the campaign—https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=Bush+%2B+want+to+have+beer+with+).  That egghead who warned us about Climate Change and how he invented the Internet (which I guess you can technically say he did by crafting the military legislation which authorized it).  Everything that Al Gore talked about he has been proven right on.  Be it the aforementioned things or his projects he worked on as Vice President: Reinventing Government, National Performance Review, Trust in Government Initiative, Plain English Initiative, Quality Management, and Regulatory Reform Initiative. Everyone was now doing bottom-up planning instead of top-down approaches like: Management By Objectives (MBO), Zero-Based Budgeting, Performance Based Budgeting, One Minute Manager, etc.  Employees were buying into the planning and offering cost savings ideas that could potentially be awarded a bonus.   The nerds were winning!  Now are we losing?

Why is it even important?  Well, our competitiveness in the world is at stake.  In markets, in computers, and frankly in military dominance.

says: Donald Trump talks at a fourth-grade level. Maybe that’s why the Fox News audience loves him:

The culture of anti-intellectualism in America is fueling hateful, racist demagogues — in politics and on TV.

Wow!  Talk about the Anti-Intellectual and Anti-Science crowd getting their way.  Will we become the laughing stock of the world?

Anti-Science?  I think it arises out of the Climate Change deniers and End of Times (Rapture) movements.  You know those with the 6,000 year-old earth theory (https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=6%2C000+year-old+earth+theory), the museum showing men riding dinosaurs (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creation_Museum), and that the “Man on the Moon” was staged (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon_landing_conspiracy_theories); usually fostered by religious nuts, who like TV’s Pat Robertson take money from their flock and has a billion dollars in gold stashed by an African dictator (http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/pat-robertsons-gold-deal-african-dictator/story?id=9749341 and http://www.forwardprogressives.com/joel-osteens-missing-600000-pat-robertsons-questionable-friends/).

This all would be laughable if it wasn’t true.  This is not just an Onion article or a skit from Saturday Night Live; this is real life.  Political candidates are being elected on these causes, not just at the local level but into CONGRESS!  Textbooks are being changed in Texas to reflect this “new history.”  Churches are promoting these teachings.  It is a world upside down!

This isn’t the first time this happened in our history: the Scopes Monkey Trial (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scopes_Trial) and in the Bible Belt farmers shunned education to keep children on the farm as free workers.

The Anti-Intellectual and Anti-Science crowd are also not very civil.  Their speech is very nasty to anyone who opposes them or questions their facts. They base their followership on fear and not facts.

Lastly, Anti-Intellectual and Anti-Science implies Anti-Liberal and this might be a root cause of all this nonsense.  Fox News spends 24/7 telling us how bad Liberals are when in fact any progress made by our species has in fact been made by the liberal mind.  Fire, the Wheel, society; all have been conceived by liberal thinking.

It is a bad time in America to have a brain.
