Many pundits have said this campaign is about the outsiders running for office.  They point out Trump, Cruz, Rand Paul and Ben Carson; and grudgingly and barely mention Bernie Sanders.  But the 2016 Presidential Campaign is really about Income Inequality; an issue that has made a shell of our economy and gotten so many so angry they are beyond reason.  People who are willing to go with a bully like Trump because they are too frustrated at being ground up and spit out by our economy.  Income Inequality is the issue that “Republican Failure” created, and the current crop of Republicans hopefuls is so woefully ill-prepared to talk about.  First off, they are all multi-millionaires (and even billionaires), and their fortunes have been created by the misfortunes of other average Americans.  They only have gotten ahead on the backs of working people.

Recently, some broad-based attacks on Bernie Sanders are that all his supporters just want “free stuff.”  That somehow they are all lazy, trust fund babies, or welfare cheats.  The posters of this crap on Facebook usually say: “they should get a job”—like it is some orchestrated attack by the Koch Brothers.  Then look what shows up:

As my diatribe goes on, I will make comments in bold italics here.  So here are the posts by J.J. James (in Italics) that lead me to this topic:

“Things are horrible, just having a job doesn’t mean much – buying power is down.  Money does not buy what it used to in the past, there is nowhere in the country that anybody can work a single 40+ hour minimum wage job and live. It is impossible. It’s just not enough money. 7.25*40*4*12 = not much money.

You need a home… you need a car… you need utilities… you need food… you need insurance(s)… you need a phone – and I get so damned sick of the assholes saying “a cellphone is a luxury item, if you can’t afford it don’t get one”. No. You need a phone, especially if you want/have a job. You cannot get a job without a phone or without an address….

Raising the minimum wage raises the bar for everybody, everybody would see an increase in pay – and prices, should not rise too much. ESPECIALLY since prices have been steadily rising for 20+ years while wages have been stagnating. People pay more, get less, doesn’t matter about education or job.

If you work 40 hours a week, full time, you should not be living in poverty.

At least not in a country that professes the “American Dream.”

Simply saying “well move” or “go across the street and get a better job” – yeah, America does NOT work that way. Small town, my choices are food service, grocery stores, dollar stores, gas stations, or heavy manual labor.

Regardless of which one of those wonderful jobs I pick from, 40 hours a week, working my ass off daily… my end of year take home pay would be about 15,400.00; and that is IF the minimum wage was up to 8$ an hour, it’s not.  So subtracting taxes, about 1,000~1,100 per month to pay bills. Which leaves me with…. no savings, no extra spending money – unless somehow I’m out of the house so long that I use no electricity or water and see like a 20$ drop in costs.

It has been my contention that even the “Living Wage” is rising above the $20.00 mark.

Oh yeah, and working any of those full time jobs – since my annual take home would be so low, I qualify for food stamps, welfare, and other assistance programs.

Which… even though I would be working a full 40 hours, or more, somehow I would be a lazy moocher and a taker… while working full time, but not able to afford to live.

The 1950s are over, minimum wage jobs are no longer just kids working temporary jobs for temp money during summer break.  They are single moms working three jobs just to keep their head above water.   – see the bottom; Start here…. check your state, check some other states….

I like discussions – but I lose my temper when people start talking magical fairy tale dreams and ignoring the evidence in front of them.

One of the reasons why I collect links… sometimes, blunt force is the only way to shake somebody up enough to burst their bubble. Sadly, more often than not, all of the links and evidence get dismissed.

It’s not the fault of the person that there are no jobs – hell, there have been times in my area where there have been 1,500 applying for three jobs…. seriously.

Job fairs… last one there was a total of 160 jobs, give or take a few, and they have over 4,000 applications. and the new jobs only offered 2$ more than min-wage.

I’m not trying to get a crap food service job because I’m dumb or lazy or smoke weed or drink or am lazy – it’s because that’s all that is available around here driving 90 minutes in all directions. It’s a job until I find a better job, it’s income – although not much – my state keeps giving corporations and businesses tax cuts after tax cuts after tax cuts in exchange to create new jobs.

the only new jobs that have been created are minimum wage service industry jobs.

The only real career jobs around here are working at the hospitals and going there…. yeah you gotta have education, training, and experience – but it’s also largely who you know. Family members get hired first, friends of workers get hired second, friends of family members get hired third, a handful of college graduates get hired fourth (tax breaks for hiring local graduates), friends of family’s friends of friends get hired next… and down the list, is the general public applying.

Shouldn’t be this difficult to earn a living – and living paycheck to paycheck is not earning a living and not the American Dream.  It’s a shitty life cycle that millions of people cannot escape.

WHM: Yet, no one is talking about it…..

and then Walmart comes to town……”

WHM: I would say to you J.J. James, that Walmart often destroys small towns like the mom & pop grocery, gas station and hardware stores. So the people falling behind, fall further behind and get angrier.  Maybe if they (Walmart and all the others) didn’t buy everything from China and returned to Sam Walton’s model of made in USA and employee-owners and health care…we as a country might actually be stronger?

Thanks to J.J. James for this really amazing list of websites he has collected over the last couple of years.  I may have posted some of them over the course of the last four years and 75 posts on this website but who can really tell?  I know that things are bad, but the worst thing is that it is too complicated to explain why it is happening and how to fix it to the ordinary person.  Then when that person is so enraged that they believe D.J. Trump is the only answer they have gone beyond any reasoning that can change their minds.  This country is in trouble from the very people that profess that they will save it….
