I would like to invite you to be a part of an exciting new organization open to the 99% of Americans who care for this country, it is called TORE or Turn Out Republicans Everywhere. This is the only way we can preserve the Country as we knew it, keep ourselves from being shackled, and maintain a nation with some semblance of democracy and civility. This is about YOUR quality of life. The Government shutdown of October 1, 2013 and the debt crisis of October 17, 2013 are the only arguments I need to make in order to convince you 100%. The Republican Party authored this shutdown the day after the Reelection of President Obama in 2012 and it stems from the Republican meetings the day after his election in 2008 (http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/04/25/9-revelations-from-robert-draper-s-do-not-ask-what-good-we-do.html). The whole Republican Party leadership psyche is to defeat Obama in any initiative, ruin Obama’s legacy and make Obama less credible. Instead of trying to do something good or even halfway marginal for the American People. The back-room GOALS are: destroying the economy; plunging us into war with Iran; denying health care to millions while increasing insurance company profits; allowing banks to rule the world without regulation; stopping all environmental safeguards; allowing oil, gas and coal companies to operate without oversight; killing, maiming and enslaving workers by destroying unions, eliminating OSHA and the minimum wage; bringing back segregation and generally rolling back Civil Rights (especially those for women); eliminating the Middle Class; and generally making it tough on people in poverty. These are not exaggerations just understatements of a few of the discovered statements by the right wing extremists (the new moderates and centrists of the Republican Party).
The truly stated end game for some is reaching the End Times. Reference the creationists, rapturists, intelligent designers, flat Earthers, dominionists (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dominionism), dimunitivists, fundamentalists and Evangelist Christians. People who deny science and rewrite history. Literally they think the Earth is only 6,000 years old and people rode dinosaurs; then they go onto the Internet and rewrite Wikipedia entries to make the Republican Party look better in history.
This is dangerous and Un-American.
We have proof of these allegations for you the voter. Just remember the 47% comment by Mitt Romney to touch the surface of how the Republican Party really thinks about you (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/03/14/scott-prouty-mitt-romney-_n_2876373.html).
But first you must turn off Fox News and Rush Limbaugh, and promise never to listen to them again, even for a second opinion of what is actually going on in this country. There is some brainwashing going on (Http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fox_News_Channel_controversies).
There are a lot of distractions the Republican Party does to illicit one of two responses 1. FEAR, 2. HATRED; or a little of both. Distractions like: the War on Christmas; abortion; what is termed the “culture wars” or the campaign theme of God, Guns and Gays; lower taxes will make us all prosperous; only the rich know how to fix the economy; and always the old faithful, the need to be “Patriotic” in wartime.
Further, the Republican Party is guilty of willful sedition and the willing overthrow of the government.

This is not liberal versus conservative, or Republican Party members versus Democratic Party members, nor right versus left. This is about a select group of elite millionaires and billionaires who are picking and choosing who will win elected positions and who will make money. This is the same crowd that profited out of every war and in the Republican Great Depression of 1929 (Republican Great Recession of 2008, and the Republican-caused Panics of 1893, 1873, 1919, 1953–notice the Republican connection there?).  By shutting down the government and defaulting on the debt they are betting on making even more money. The average “cost” of running for Congress was over $10 million dollars in 2010 meaning that every day of the year (365) a Representative had to raise $2,000 or more in the two years BEFORE the election. I give $10 to mine, so he needs 199 people more on the same day. That is a lot of people to call and ask for money from. Or he can get a corporation to give him $2,000 that day and put him on the installment plan that under the Supreme Court ruling of Citizens United has no campaign contribution limits. Who is this guy going to listen to even if he had an average wealth instead of being a multi-millionaire like the majority is Congress are????
Democrats are by no means perfect, and there is a lot of room for improvement, but generally under their leadership: wars are won, national security is better, the economy prospers, the society moves to Civil Rights, voting rights are ensured, and there is more democracy (reference: the Two Santa Claus Theory of the GOP https://www.commondreams.org/view/2009/01/26-0, Jude Wanniski http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jude_Wanniski, Paul Weyerich’s Goo Goo Syndrome http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GBAsFwPglw http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Weyrich).
The 1994 Newt Gingrich Contract with America with its two term limits—failed when its titular head, Newt, didn’t want to get out. Instead, the tone of politics got real ugly (hell Tip O’Neil and Reagan use to drink a beer together) and the number of lobbyists expanded from 3,000 to 27,000. The GOP embraced the political strategies of “killing the other candidate” of Lee Atwater. The 2000 South Carolina Primary Election was won by church flyers of “John McCain’s illegitimate Black Baby” printed by Karl Rove who learned this from his mentor Atwater.
The GOP talks more about ‘family values’ but when in office they do very little about it. With a Republican President Bush, Congress and Supreme Court, they didn’t address abortion. Solving abortion-immigration issues would lead to party losses; so why do it? If they solved any problems who would need them? The pursuit of the Ayn Rand philosophy by GOP Representative Paul Ryan brings up her failed policies that she shared with her cult during orgies with Alan Greenspan. It was a perverted time that resulted in: trickle down economics, 1980 Reaganomics, supply-side economics (that its creator David Stockman later said he made up and didn’t think it would work; and it didn’t ); and resulted in the 2007-8 Recession.
Without the knowledge of history we are doomed to repeat it. This would be an awful experience for you and I, and for our common Country.
Still there are many other reasons to vote against the Republican Party in a TORE movement:

2. Corporate tax as a % of Federal revenue:

3. Nixon. Watergate was bigger than a break-in against the Democratic Party Headquarters (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watergate_scandal.). G. Gordon Liddy and the burglars wanted to see if the Democrats knew about Nixon’s secret negotiations through Anna Chennault (Ken Huges: The Tale is in the Tapes), Madame Chang Kai Chek and Henry Kissenger with North Vietnam to postpone peace negotiations so Nixon could “give them a better deal.” This folks is treason punishable by death. This came out in a LBJ secret tape of his conversation with Senator Dirksen where he asked Nixon to stop the deal making. In order to convict these guys like Liddy, Erlichman, Colson, Hunt, Dean, CREEP (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Committee_for_the_Re-Election_of_the_President), they contacted Donald Segretti of the College Republicans (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Segretti) and asked for inside information on where the money came from (remember Vice President Spiro Agnew had already resigned over Cuban money secured in Florida). Segretti said what he was involved in 1972, were college pranks not dirty tricks. He and Karl Rove, Ralph Reed, Jack Abramhoff, Grover Norquist, and G.W. Bush. The pranks included spitting on soldiers at airports and dressing up as hippies. Putting Nixon bumper stickers over McGovern’s, calling him a communist and draft dodger (when he was WWII decorated), etc. The young republicans of Donald Segretti were given a pass for tips against the actual 1972 Watergate burglars of C.R.E.E.P. This meant that Karl Rove, Grover Norquist, Ralph Reed and Jack Abramoff (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Abramoff) were let off the hook to steal the 2000 Election. Jack was later caught up in the Speaker of the House Tom Delay’s (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_DeLay_campaign_finance_trial) Indian Tribe fraud and went to jail.

4. Reagan should be credited with the 2007-8 Recession from his economic Policies. But let’s examine his treason. In the 1980 Election his team made overtures to the Iranian Government not to release the hostages until AFTER he was elected. 5. Coup against FDR. If we elect that clean new face of Jeb Bush, this would deny what we have learned about the Bush Family over the last ten years. That grandpa Senator Prescott Bush not only sold oil to the Nazi’s but he provided financing that without it would have Hitler’s 1932 political win impossible. There is a new book out called the “Business Plot against FDR” and in it, it describes a coup attempt against FDR in 1934; one of the main financiers was Prescott. 6. George W. Bush. Must I say more?
The reports that have been posted that the Obama’s “vacation” to Spain was a $200 million taxpayer event and Michelle bought $2 million in dresses have proved to be false. Why didn’t the Tea Party howl about the past and George W. Bush’s 1,100 days of official vacation (“clearing brush at the Ranch”) and then state trips still upon that? http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-politics/wp/2013/08/09/watch-which-u-s-president-took-the-most-vacation-time/. He exercised from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. each day, and took a 90 minute lunch and then quit for the day at 3-4 p.m. He was in bed by 8 p.m. most days. In 8 years, we may have gotten almost a year’s worth of worth out of him 2,080 hours (admittedly my guesstimate). He certainly fiddled while Rome burned….the economy went into the tank and 9-11 happened while he stayed in a classroom in Florida for an extra hour after getting good intelligence in the August 6th PDB (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bin_Ladin_Determined_To_Strike_in_US). Condoleeza Rice was warned about Osama bin Laden on day one by National Security Advisor Richard Clark and she said that “was not a policy interest of hers.” She wanted to know more about “what the Russians were up to”….. During shock and awe in 2003, Vice President Dick Cheney picked out targets in Iraq (usurping the Commander-in-Chief) and picked several schools to wipe out saying he had intelligence that terrorists or Republican guard where there. So the Air Force took them out. One school, which was one of these first targets that was featured on video, was rebuilt at a cost of about $10 million. It was taken out by “terrorists” within 24 hours. It was rebuilt 6 more times and was taken out every time within 24 hours. We wasted a lot of money there that Halliburton gained.

7. The Republican Party tried to run Senator Strom Thurmond as President in the GOP in 1948 with a KKK platform. Four GOP Presidents were endorsed by the KKK, like Kool Kalvin Koolidge that printed this as his slogan in the South and Indiana (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ku_Klux_Klan_members_in_United_States_politics).

8. “The Family” was founded in 1935 in opposition to FDR’s New Deal and the Labor Movement. It is also responsible for the “Kill the Gays” legislation, etc., in African Countries today.

12. What happened to Larry Flynt’s (Hustler Magazine) contest to gather dirt on Republicans? He had lots of stuff like Sen. Vitter’s prostitute habit and Larry Craig’s restroom antics and it led to Senator Livingston resigning (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Flynt). Saint Pete (Senator Domenici’s name in the New Mexico Press) was banging future Rep. Heather Wilson as an intern. His wife Nancy, suffering from mental health issues was incapable of having sex, so the Senator was straying. Then in an effort to get Heather elected as Senator, Peter (this is a better description) got David Iglesias fired as the Federal Prosecutor for New Mexico.

13. Most people believe that the “Tea Party” is a grassroots movement, led by Sarah Palin, Sen. Rand Paul, and Rep. Michelle Bachman, but this could not be further from the truth. 14. Senator Mitch McConnell’s meetings in 2009 with other Republicans about stonewalling President Obama on every issue (his public comment to: make him a one-term President. They made a pledge to their leadership. This is exactly what happened in the votes. This was the largest number of filibusters in Senate History, taking us to the financial cliff, opposing tax reform, etc. Voting against everything that would help you or I. Ayn Rand was a hypocrite!

Ayn Rand was a hypocrite!  She wrote about things she never intended herself to live by or die by (her dependence on Social Security and Medicare).  So ultimately she never believed.

Ayn Rand is dead and so is most of her work.  But her hellish spawn lives on.  Ron Paul named his son Rand and he now serves in the U.S. Senate.  Paul Ryan the Republican Representative who wants to end Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, says his main motivator was Ayn Rand (who under an assumed name in later life took both Social Security and Medicare).  He requires his staff to read several of her books or resign.

These are dangerous people who are using a sex cult’s teachings to try and take over a nation (Ayn Rand had frequent orgies and one of her concubines was Alan Greenspan—it must have been her Woody Allen weakness).   Remember Alan, he admitted that he didn’t think we would have a recession if he just kept propping up the economy; he was totally unaware of how bad things really were…..

Bush Family Ties To Nazi Party and the Attempt to Kill FDR

Marine Major General Smedley Butler in 1935,  wrote a book called:

War Is a Racket, a condemnation of the profit motive behind warfare. His views on the subject are summarized in the following passage: from a 1935 issue of the socialist magazine:

In 1934 he was involved in a controversy known as the “Business Plot” when he told a congressional committee that a group of wealthy industrialists, had approached him to lead a military coup to overthrow President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The individuals that were involved denied the existence of a plot, and the media ridiculed the allegations. The final report of the committee stated that there was evidence that such a plot existed, but no charges were ever filed. The opinion of most historians is that while planning for a coup was not very advanced, wild schemes were discussed.  Prescott Bush, George W. Bush’s grandfather was one of the conspirators.

The Bushes and Hitler’s Appeasement

The irony of George W. Bush going before the Knesset and mocking the late Sen. William Borah for expressing surprise at Adolf Hitler’s 1939 invasion of Poland is that Bush’s own family played a much bigger role assisting the Nazis.

If Borah, an isolationist Republican from Idaho, sounded naïve saying “Lord, if only I could have talked to Hitler, all of this might have been avoided,” then what should be said about Bush’s grandfather and other members of his family providing banking and industrial assistance to the Nazis as they built their war machine in the 1930s?

The archival evidence is now clear that Prescott Bush, the president’s grandfather, was a director and shareholder of companies that profited from and collaborated with key financial backers of Nazi Germany.

That business relationship continued after Hitler invaded Poland in 1939 and even after Germany declared war on the United States following Japan’s bombing of Pearl Harbor in December 1941. It stopped only when the U.S. government seized assets of Bush-connected companies in late 1942 under the “Trading with the Enemy Act.”

So, perhaps instead of holding up Sen. Borah to ridicule, Bush might have acknowledged in his May 15 speech that his forebears also were blind to the dangers of Hitler.

Bush might have noted that his family’s wealth, which fueled his own political rise, was partly derived from Nazi collaboration and possibly from slave labor provided by Auschwitz and other concentration camps.

A more honest speech before the Knesset – on the 60th anniversary of Israel’s founding – might have contained an apology to the Jewish people from a leading son of the Bush family for letting its greed contribute to Nazi power and to the horrors of the Holocaust. Instead, there was just the jab at Sen. Borah, who died in 1940.

President Bush apparently saw no reason to remind the world of a dark chapter from the family history. After all, those ugly facts mostly disappeared from public consciousness soon after World War II.

Protected by layers of well-connected friends, Prescott Bush brushed aside the Nazi scandal and won a U.S. Senate seat from Connecticut, which enabled him to start laying the foundation for the family’s political dynasty.

In recent years, however, the archival records from the pre-war era have been assembled, drawing from the Harriman family papers at the Library of Congress, documents at the National Archives, and records from war-crimes trials after Germany’s surrender.

*Managers for the Powerful*

One can trace the origins of this story back more than a century to the emergence of Samuel Bush, George W. Bush’s great-grandfather, as a key manager for a set of powerful American business families, including the Rockefellers and the Harrimans. That chapter took an important turn in 1919 when investment banker George Herbert Walker teamed up with Averell Harriman, scion to a railroad fortune, to found a new investment banking firm, W.A. Harriman Company.

The Harriman firm was backed by the Rockefellers’ National City Bank and the Morgan family’s Guaranty Trust. The English-educated Walker assisted in assembling the Harriman family’s overseas business investments.

In 1921, Walker’s favorite daughter, Dorothy, married Samuel Bush’s son Prescott, a Yale graduate and a member of the school’s exclusive Skull and Bones society. Handsome and athletic, admired for his golf and tennis skills, Prescott Bush was a young man with the easy grace of someone born into the comfortable yet competitive world of upper-crust contacts.

Three years later, Dorothy gave birth to George Herbert Walker Bush in Milton, Massachusetts.

Lifted by the financial boom of the 1920s, Prescott and Dorothy Bush were on the rise. By 1926, George Herbert Walker had brought his son-in-law in on a piece of the Harriman action, hiring him as a vice president in the Harriman banking firm.

By the mid-Thirties, Prescott Bush had become a managing partner at the merged firm of Brown Brothers Harriman. The archival records also show that Brown Brothers Harriman served as the U.S. financial service arm for German industrialist Fritz Thyssen, an early funder of the Nazi Party.

Thyssen, an admirer of Adolf Hitler since the 1920s, joined the Nazi Party in 1931 when it was still a fringe organization. He helped bail the struggling party out with financial help, even providing its headquarters building in Munich.

Meanwhile, Averell Harriman had launched the Hamburg-Amerika line of steamships to facilitate the bank’s dealings with Germany, and made Prescott Bush a director. The ships delivered fuel, steel, coal, gold and money to Germany as Hitler was consolidating his power and building his war machine.

Other evidence shows that Prescott Bush served as the director of the Union Banking Corp. of New York, which represented Thyssen’s interests in the United States and was owned by a Thyssen-controlled bank in the Netherlands.

As a steel magnate, Thyssen was amassing a fortune as Hitler rearmed Germany. Documents also linked Bush to Thyssen’s Consolidated Silesian Steel Company, which was based in mineral-rich Silesia on the German-Polish border and exploited slave labor from Nazi concentration camps, including Auschwitz. But records at the National Archives do not spell out exactly when Bush’s connection ended or what he knew about the business details.

In 1941, Thyssen had a falling out with Hitler and fled to France where he was captured. Much of Thyssen’s empire went under the direct control of the Nazis, but even that did not shatter the business ties that existed with Prescott Bush and Harriman’s bank.

It wasn’t until August 1942 that newspaper stories disclosed the secretive ties between Union Banking Corp. and Nazi Germany.

*No Kiss of Death*

For most public figures, allegations of trading with the enemy would have been a political kiss of death, but the disclosures barely left a lipstick smudge on Averell Harriman, Prescott Bush and other business associates implicated in the Nazi business dealings.

“Politically, the significance of these dealings – the great surprise – is that none of it seemed to matter much over the next decade or so,” wrote Kevin Phillips in *American Dynasty*.

“A few questions would be raised, but Democrat Averell Harriman would not be stopped from becoming federal mutual security administrator in 1951 or winning election as governor of New York in 1954. … Nor would Republican Prescott Bush (who was elected senator from Connecticut in 1952) and his presidential descendants be hurt in any of their future elections.”

Indeed, the quick dissipation of the Nazi financial scandal was only a portent of the Bush family’s future. Unlike politicians of lower classes, the Bushes seemed to travel in a bubble impervious to accusations of impropriety, since the Eastern Establishment doesn’t like to think badly of its own. To this day – as President Bush showed by mocking the long-forgotten Sen. Borah and then wielding the Nazi “appeasement” club against Barack Obama and other Democrats – the assumption remains that the bubble will continue to protect the Bush family name.

However, the evidence from dusty archives suggests that the Bush family went way beyond appeasement of Adolf Hitler to aiding and abetting the Nazis.

We often kid about the right wing extremists in the Republican Party, but upon historical exploration, it makes you think about how welcomed these fanatics have been in the party. You could even wonder how far right many party members are still today despite the end of the civil rights era.   Maybe they just don’t get it; or maybe they “hate” people like you and me.  Monitor them, then vote your conscious against them and their party.

Republican Senator Joseph Raymond McCarthy was elected in Wisconsin in 1946, 1952 and served till his death in 1957, surviving several censure and near impeachment attempts.  In 1950, Senator Joseph McCarthy launched a series of highly publicized investigations of suspected communists in the State Department.  The country was gripped by this anti-Communist hysteria and McCarthy was able conduct hearings which dominated the Congressional spotlight.  Senator McCarthy launched a series of highly publicized investigations intended to root out Communists in the U.S. Government, Hollywood, and even the U.S. Army.   McCarthy’s aggressive attacks on alleged Communists spread fear through many sectors of American society and destroyed the careers of those he “exposed.”  Respected newsman Edward R. Murrow was able to show that McCarthy had little evidence to back up his claims that spies for the Soviet Union had infiltrated the country, and McCarthy eventually fell into disfavor.  In 1954, the Senate censured McCarthy for abusing his authority.  The controversial senator’s tactics were soon labeled McCarthyism, a term now used to refer to groundless and mean-spirited attacks.

Before the “McCarthy Era” the Republicans were tired of being a minority party.  Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s four victories as President and his subsequent successful administrations were putting the party out of business.  They were desperate to get their way!

Republicans use to say that Roosevelt was in league with Joseph Stalin, the allied leader of the communist Soviet Union.   Because Roosevelt was supported by unions, started the New Deal and the Works Progress Administration, they accused his of being a communist.  Some Republican extremists believed that the depression and resulting masses of poor people was more a case of “survival of the fittest.”  If they had been more “competitive” they would not have become poor.  Some took this thinking further: that if the poor were continued to be left alone by government programs would eventually die off.  Government programs only allowed them to have more children and perpetuated them and their plight.  They should be allowed only to live in the inner cities to supply cheap labor pools for growing corporations.

THE KU KLUX KLAN AND ITS RELATIONSHIP TO REPUBLICANS (REPUBLIKLANS)

The name, rituals, and some of the attitudes of the original Klan were adopted by a new fraternal organization incorporated in Georgia in 1915. The official name of the new society, which was organized by a former preacher, Colonel William Simmons, was Invisible Empire, Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. Membership was open to native-born, white, Protestant males, 16 years of age or older; blacks, Roman Catholics, and Jews were excluded and were increasingly made targets of defamation and persecution by the Klan. Until 1920 the society exercised little influence. Then, in the period of economic dislocation and political and social unrest that followed World War I, the Klan expanded rapidly in urban areas and became active in many states, notably Colorado, Oregon, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. Although the Klan everywhere fiercely preached white supremacy, it focused its attack on what it considered to be “alien outsiders.”   This meant immigrants who were not WASP.  Attacks intensified on all groups, particularly the Roman Catholic Church, which the Klan believed was threatening traditional American ways and values.  Churches were burned and Black Catholics were openly lynched.  All non-Protestants, aliens, liberals, trade unionists, Jews and striking workers were denounced as subversives.

Like its prototype, the Klan burned fiery crosses to frighten its victims.  Masked Klansmen also marched through the streets of many communities, carrying placards threatening various persons with summary punishment and warning others to leave town. Many persons were kidnaped, flogged, and mutilated by the Klan; a number were killed. Few prosecutions of Klansmen resulted, and in some communities they were abetted by local officials.  It was not uncommon to see under the sheet of a Klansman, the uniform of a law enforcement official.

Journalistic disclosures of crimes committed by the Klan and of corruption and immorality in its leadership led to a congressional investigation in 1921, and for a time the Klan changed its tactics. After 1921 it experienced a rapid growth of membership and became politically influential throughout the nation. One estimate of its membership, made in 1924, when the Klan was at the peak of its strength, was as high as 3 to 4 million, with a woman’s auxiliary of nearly a million.  In that year a resolution denouncing the Klan, introduced at the national convention of the Democratic Party, precipitated a bitter controversy and was defeated.

In 1924, in Indiana, Klan leader David C. (“DC”) Stevenson orchestrated a campaign which elected Ed Jackson to the Governorship and over fifty other Republicans to the state legislature.  For this he was made Grand Dragon.  Another 100 Klan members were elected as local officials of the Republican Party, like the Mayor of Indianapolis.  These candidates were secretly financed by the Ku Klux Klan, and then after election were threaten with being exposed if they didn’t tow the Klan line.  DC’s political machine elected legislators in 12 states (Indiana, Iowa, Illinois, Ohio, Oregon, Oklahoma, Texas, West Virginia), and boasted that the Ku Klux Klan had 6 million members, and was expected to be 8 million when David C. Stevenson was going to run for President in 1928.  Some of the tactics used were the bombings of Klan rallies and the planting of evidence that suggested Catholic, Black and Jewish groups did it.  This was able to sway public opinion toward the Klan.  With the control of funding, the Klan embarked on highway projects and social service programs intended to endear them to the populace.

Late in 1924, D.C. Stevenson was convicted of raping and murdering a young woman named Madge Oberholtz (who went to him to have her early education and reading program funds restored).  She rebuked his romantic intentions so he drugged her and raped her on a train ride to Chicago.  A trial was held and he was convicted of with holding medical attention from the woman for more than three days that resulted in her death.  Some of the damaging evidence came as descriptions of the genital mutilation and numerous bite marks on the woman’s body.  In his attempt to blackmail the Governor for a pardon, he released two large black metal boxes containing the names and amounts of hundreds of officials nationwide that were on the Klan’s payroll.  These records destroyed the careers of thousands of Republicans in the Midwest (including some of Dan Quayle’s relatives) and over one hundred Republican elected officials were imprisoned for bribery and forgery offenses.  An attempt to revitalize the Klan came when Imperial Wizard Green marched 40,000 hooded men down Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C. on August 8, 1925.    Paid membership fell to 25,000.

In the mid-1920’s, inept and exploitive leadership, internal conflict, and alleged Klan immorality and violence badly damaged the Klan’s reputation, and political opposition increased. In one year over a million members quit, by 1926 membership was down to 300,000, and by 1929 it had been reduced to just several thousand members.  During the economic depression of the 1930’s the Ku Klux Klan remained active on a small scale, particularly against trade union organizers in the South. It also threatened blacks with punishment if they tried to exercise their right to vote. In 1940 the Klan joined with the German-American Bund, an organization financed in part by the government of Nazi Germany, in holding a large rally at Camp Nordland, New Jersey.

After the entry of the United States into World War II, the Klan curtailed its activities. In 1944 it disbanded formally when it was unable to pay back taxes owed to the federal government. Revival of Klan activities after the war led to widespread public sentiment for the suppression of the organization. It suffered a setback in its national stronghold, Georgia, when that state revoked the Klan charter in 1947. With the death of its strongest postwar leader, the obstetrician Samuel Green, of Atlanta, Georgia, Klan unity broke down into numerous, independent, competing units, which often did not last long enough to be placed on the list of subversive organizations issued by the U.S. attorney general.

The U.S. Supreme Court ruling, on May 17, 1954, that racial segregation in public schools was unconstitutional, stirred the Klan into new attempts at recruitment and violence but did not bring internal unity or greatly increased membership, power, or respectability in the South. Most opponents of desegregation chose other leaders, such as the White Citizens Council, while the Klan chiefly attracted the fringe elements of society and remained more of a status than a resistance movement.

As the civil rights movement gained force in the late 1950’s and as resistance to integration began to diminish throughout the South, the Klan continued to offer hard-core opposition to civil rights programs and was believed to be involved in many incidents of racial violence, intimidation, and reprisal, particularly bombings. After the U.S. Civil Rights Act of 1964 it experienced a marked increase in membership, reaching an estimated 40,000 in 1965.  After the Civil Rights Act passage many southern Democrats opposed to it switched to the Republican Party (encouraged by men like U.S. Senators Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms who both have admitted Klan membership). One can study this dissention by listening to the President Lyndon B. Johnson tapes in the National Archives (he as a southern son was often confronted by the Klan as a traitor).

By the mid-1970’s, the Klan had gained somewhat in respectability. Acknowledged Klan leaders ran for public office in the South, amassing sizable numbers of votes. Approximately 15 separate organizations existed, including the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, the United Klans of America, and the National Klan.  A resurgence of Klan violence occurred in the late 1970’s, and in 1980 a Klan office was opened in Toronto, Canada. The total membership was estimated at about 5,000 at the end of the 1980’s.  A former grand wizard of the Klan, David Duke was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives in 1989 and ran unsuccessfully in the state’s gubernatorial election in 1991 and 1996; as a Republican, and for U.S. Congress in 1994.

What a strange party that a President of the Screen Actors Guild, which had reportedly Communist party leanings, would be elected as its presidential nominee, when he espoused being a born-again conservative (Ronald W. Reagan).  Maybe it is not so strange……things that on the surface seem fair, mainstream and good for our future turn into Republican rhetoric and broken promises to the nation.

In Defense of Voting for the Democratic Party

Mike Malloy has recently had a change of heart in the 2012 election and will support the Democratic Party.  This 180 degree decision did not come lightly and he described the last ten years or more of Democratic Party history as being a culture of cowardice.  Agreed.

Mike’s critics say this is a betrayal of:

– Free Enterprise to Capitalism;

– Liberalism to centrist politics;

– Peace and pride to illegal war and blind patriotism;

– Truth and justice to greed and unbridled power;

– Environmental progress to rape and pillage by big oil and king coal; and

– Democracy to the rigged two-party system.

And this may be more true than I want to believe, but there is some value and sanity is voting for the Democratic Party in 2012.  Does anyone remember how bad Republicans have been in our history of the nation.  Especially when they perceive they are in total control.  If you are not alarmed by the Tea Party thugs of 2010, then you are not paying attention—just think of: Karl Rove financially unleashed under Citizens United; Grover Norquist’s no tax pledge overriding the congressional oath to the U.S. Constitution; Rep. Paul Ryan, the Ayn Rand cult worshiper, and the gutting of Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid; the billionaire Koch Brothers-financed Gov. Scott Walker and the war on Public Employee Unions; and the Gov. Kasich draconian budget cuts to destroy social programs.

So you the pissed-off listener, and rightly so—you should be pissed off—we all are, hence the 99% movement, but don’t take it out on Mike.  So you say you are going to vote your conscious and vote for the Green Party, the independent, the Libertarian or the socialist.  But a third party ALWAYS elects the 2nd party that people detest when they leave their first party—thus achieving the complete opposite of what they wanted to accomplish.  Witness former Republican TR and the Bull Moose Party electing Wilson the Democrat; former Republican Ross Perot and the Reform Party electing Clinton the Democrat; Nader and the Green Party electing Bush in 2000—and hundreds of examples across the world.

Thom Hartmann counsels you to take over your local Democratic Party by attending a Ward Meeting; and there may be ways of having a progressive fusion party or caucus within the Demo Party.  In New Mexico we tried a Green Demo Party but it didn’t work out that well after we changed to a caucus system when our incumbent governor wanted to run for President (Bill Richardson).

But let’s go back to my original premise about how bad Republicans can be and were in our history:

– In 1934 Marine Major General Smedley Butler (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smedley_Butler) was involved in a controversy known as the “Business Plot” when he told a congressional committee that a group of wealthy industrialists had approached him to lead a military coup to overthrow President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The individuals that were involved denied the existence of a plot, and the media ridiculed the allegations. The final report of the committee stated that there was evidence that such a plot existed, but no charges were ever filed. The opinion of most historians is that while planning for a coup was not very advanced, wild schemes were discussed.  Prescott Bush, George W. Bush’s grandfather was one of the conspirators.  In one of those acts of cowardice that Mike talks about, FDR refuses to prosecute.  Butler later writes the book: “War is a Racket” exposing defense contractors in 1935.

Murrow was able to show that McCarthy had little evidence to back up his claims that spies for the Soviet Union had infiltrated the country, and McCarthy eventually fell into disfavor.  In 1954, the Senate censured McCarthy for abusing his authority.

 

– The 1964 disastrous loss of Republican Barry Goldwater for President.  Cultural conservatives set out to take over America using a well-thought-out plan.  The plan was put in place by the likes of Richard Viguerie, Paul Weyrich, Supreme Court justice Lewis F. Powell, William F. Buckley, Bill Kristol’s dad and Lee Atwater.  People who would like to take us back to the Dark Ages or at least allow slavery.

 

– In 1968, former Vice President Richard Nixon used Madame Chiang Kai-Shek to negotiate a secret deal with the North Vietnamese not to make peace with LBJ.  LBJ found out about it but did nothing.  Nixon fearing the Democrats would use this against him in the 1972 campaign staged the Watergate Break-in and cover-up.  Not to mention he implemented the “Southern Strategy.”  In one of those acts of cowardice that Mike talks about, LBJ refuses to prosecute.

 

– The election of Ronald Reagan in 1980 and the implementation defense spending and of supply-side economics and the trickle down theory which bankrupted the country in 2007.   Ohhh plus the illegal Iran-Contra deal of arms for hostages in Iran and money from drugs from the Contras in Nicaragua which Reagan also claimed to forget.
